I've been using this Backlight Keyboard for about a week now, and so far, I love it. Even in a well-lit room, the backlit keys provide a visual aid for quickly getting my fingers back on the home keys.
When you purchase this Backlight Keyboard, be sure to go to the Logitech web site and download the latest software. In my case, the Windows 7 64-bit software was not on the included CD. The software installed okay, but not all special key functions worked. Downloading the correct file from Logitech resolved those issues.
With the correct sotware, pressing special keys like Mute, DVD Eject, and CAPS LOCK provide transparent on-screen notifications that last about a second. They're non-obstructive and non-intrusive.
My only complaint is about the F1-F12 keys. These keys have special functions on them that are activated by pressing the Fn key, much like a laptop. The backlighting only lights up the orange special function, not the letters F1 through F12. In dimly lit rooms, it sometimes takes just that extra moment of time to find the right key as I figure out which key is which.
Also, the Backlight Keyboard doesn't fully light the keys on the edge. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but it slightly ruins the overall aethestics.
There is a key to control the brightness of the keys. There are four levels: bright, normal, dim, and off.
Other notes about keys that may be important to some people, namely coders and gamers:
1. The insert key has been moved to the top row along with the Print Screen and Pause key. I don't use it, so it's a non-issue to me.
2. The delete key is a 2-row key, a feature that I prefer.
2. The scroll lock key is a Fn-key combo with the Pause key. Again, a non-issue to me.
3. The right-click key (or menu key) that is usually between right-alt and right-ctrl has been moved to a Fn-key combo with the Print Scrn key. The Fn key is where the right-click key is normally located.
4. The bottom row of keys (CTRL, WIN, ALT, SPACE, ALT, FN, and CTRL) have a round top. Every other key is flat. At first, this bothered me, but I'm used to it now and it's not a problem.
I think this is a great keyboard backlighting and I highly recommend it.
