Very Pleased vizio 47 inch lcd hdtv

Very pleased with the Vizio SV470M HDTV I got on Cyber Monday for $599, free shipping, no tax. Can't beat this deal. The picture is great, better than my Sony HDTV. The sound is fine. Easy to set up. Initially I had a little problem with some channels only getting pictures but no sound If I use HDMI to connect my TV with Set-Top-Box. No problem with Component or Composite connections. I finally got it fixed by changing the sound output of the Set-Top-Box from Auto to L-PCM. How to do this is a little tricky. You need to google 'Vizio No Sound' to find out how to do it with your particular Set-Top-Box. Overall, I am very pleased.
Excellent LCD for the price vizio 47 inch lcd hdtv

I was able to purchase this LCD from Amazon for the price of $599.99 on Cyber Monday, I think that's a great price, I saw several at my local Costco selling for $649.99 before $80 instant rebate, with tax and green fee pushing it to $826.16, I would say Amazon is the best deal with no tax and free shipping. anyway, when I was at several Costco stores around the San Fernando valley, and compared all the available Vizio, I have to say the picture is very high def, and very sharp when watching it from 2 feet away. the further I move back, the sharper the screen looks, but comparing next to the LED or a LG LCD, it's not as bright, and the contrast is not as dark, but then Costco has very bright ambience light in their warehouse, I usually watch TV in a lower light room. at another store, Avatar was shown, and the picture is just incredible, even sharper than the brocasted HD program. of course, the blue ray helped too. overall, I think it's a great TV for the price, if it's on sale again, don't hesitate.
Disregard the nay-sayers vizio 47 inch lcd hdtv

I bought this also on the cyber monday. We've been postponing the upgrade to HD for a long time waiting for the price to come down and the quality to go up. I've used vizio plasmas at work and panasonic screens for various AV productions. And I'm a videographer so I'm pretty picky. Also, I have no affiliation with Vizio nor do I care about the success of any particular product. This is simply my honest review!
All that being said . . . here's my response to my purchase.
Shipping: Amazon should stop using Pilot. Another company had to take pilots shipments from them and I got the TV 3 days after the estimated delivery date. When you're as excited as I was to get a new TV this was worse than waiting for Christmas to come. It did arrive, safely and in one piece though so I can't complain too much. At least I didn't have to go get it.
Packaging: Vizio's packaging is excellent. As one reviewer said there are 4 plastic tabs that hold the bottom of the box to the top. Pop the tabs and lift. Unit inside was very secure.
Setup and Use: hardest part was getting the 220lb 36" Sony out of the way. Not joking. 4 HDMI inputs made connection super simple. The remote is a little too plain jane for me, but nothing a universal remote wouldn't fix. But it's intuitive enough to work. The menu is a little wacky, but figuring out where things are and what they do wasn't that hard. Not going to complain about it, once I found the settings and got it set I doubt I'll go back and change it again.
Audio: it's a TV so I didn't have high expectations of the audio quality. I hooked up a blu-ray player via HDMI and watched Toy Story 2. It was missing bass presence, but at moderate volume it was clear. Better than I expected it to be. Then I discovered it has an optical output and I could pass the surround sound from HDMI to the optical output . . . GENIUS! Worked well and sounded better through my AV system.
Picture Quality: Wow – that's the short answer. The picture, color, contrast, and overall image quality on this set is fantastic. For my first HDTV I will say I'm impressed. I wanted LCD for the wide viewing angle – got it. I wanted the higher refresh rate for sharpness – got that too. Good, even brightness and contrast – yup. There was one really weird thing that bugged me about the TV. We watched an SD DVD and the motion was surreal. At first I thought it was just getting used to HD output, but there was something really unnatural about it. After some fiddling around and experimenting I discovered that in the menu there are 2 "effects" to tinker with: smooth mode effect and real cinema mode. Do yourself a favor and turn these off from the get go. I'm sure that in the preset scenes these are either on or off, but I found it so distracting that I didn't want to watch what was on the TV. Turned it off and was blown away. I have a samsung home theater in a box set (HT X50) and it has an HDMI out on it. The output is 480p. There was some noise on screen due to the TV's scaling the standard def image up, but in the menu there's a setting for noise reduction. I cranked it all the way up and watched Oceans 11 on regular DVD. The quality was easily passable for 720p. VERY IMPRESSED.
Conclusion: Ignore the weird naysayers in the forums and comments. TV's have come a long way and this one is not an exception. I am happy and for $650 after tax I have NO regrets. The biggest question I have is in terms of the product's longevity. Vizio has often come under fire for product durability. But I wanted at least a 47" TV and didn't want to pay more than $650 for it.
A super value! vizio 47 inch lcd hdtv

I was looking to upgrade, but didn't want to spend a fortune. Cyber Monday, the 47" Vizio, was marked down to $[...]. I liked the advertised features, so I bought it.[...]Set up was a breeze, maybe 10 minutes. Picture quality is really good. I will admit, the remote could use a few more features and quick menu navigation to some of the features would be nice. Sound for a factory speaker system is actually pretty good. It's not home theater, but is distortion free, with good response. On my HD receiver the picture is top notch. Clear, crisp, and with blu-ray, it is even better. Black levels are pretty good. Colors very vibrant. Anyone wanting to upgrade to what I would call a great tv at a good price, I highly recommend.
